Manning Wardle

Henrik Laurell’s “Lord Raglan”:

Whilst I have many steam loco kits in the “to do” pile, I was conscious that I didn’t have any ready for the first show. Luckily I had already bought one of Henrik Laurell’s 3d printed Woolwich Arsenal loco bodies (Lord Raglan) and a chassis from Mark Clarke (Locos n stuff) and it was reasonably straightforward for me to finish this to an acceptable standard.

It lacks some details which I may be able to add later but at least I had one steam loco available.  Whilst I have packed as much lead into it as possible it is still a little light weight compared to the Branchlines “Busy Bee” described below.  It is a reasonable runner on my track work, but I think it would benefit from a bit more weight if I could work out where to put it.

Branchlines “Busy Bee”:

I have a Branchlines “Busy Bee” kit that has been under construction for quite some time and was finished in early 2019, just in time for the first show.

The chassis has been rebuilt with Markits 9.5mm spacers and a High Level gearbox used to allow the motor to be mounted horizontally in the boiler.  The lower boiler half has been fixed to the chassis and the body fits over the top.  I didn’t like the Romford outside cranks supplied in the kit so I replaced them with the Markits “delux” outside cranks.

I have to admit that I am really pleased with the way this chassis has turned out.
