Welcome to my website
This is pretty much complete (September 2025) as I have finished my latest project Tony’s Forest. The site records the build progress of that layout along with briefer details of my previous layouts.
I am well on with the rolling stock pages for Tony’s Forest but they will be updated periodically as I still have more stock to build. You would have thought that a layout that can only accommodate five short trains wouldn’t need much rolling stock. However, I like to ring the changes at exhibitions and can’t resist building some of the stock I have acquired over the years.
Many of the individual pages have their own specific gallery page as there would be too many photos on the main gallery which is intended to show the finished layout.
I have been interested in model railways for as long as I can remember. My earliest memory is of a OO gauge Tri-ang clockwork diesel loco, wagons and a circle of track. My father built a continuous run OO gauge layout in one of the bedrooms but I am not sure if it was for himself or my older brother! I had my own fold-down OO gauge layout before we concentrated on building one in the loft.
Initially living in the North West of England it was inevitable that we would sooner or later be exposed to the various Welsh narrow gauge railways. The discovery of 009 was the catalyst for my love of narrow gauge railway modelling. However, I became disillusioned with the running and availability of stock in the mid 1970’s (just before Roger Chivers launched his range of kits) and was attracted to the recently introduced range of 016.5 kits by Stephen Poole. Since that date I have been committed to 7mm scale narrow gauge modelling, although I have to admit to a yearning to the days of ‘fun’ 009! Between my brother and myself we still have all the 009 rolling stock – so maybe one day?
The introduction of the NG7 range by Bachmann and my desire to finish building Glyn Valley Tramway, Talyllyn Railway, Corris Railway and Snailbeach District Railways trains in 016.5 is also competing with my 014 modelling. I have a couple of plans for an 014 and an 016.5 continuous run layouts both sharing dual gauge return curves but that is in the future.
